The collaboration of London-based musician, producer and member of Gorillaz live band Jesse Hackett and Chicago-based multimedia artist Mariano Chavez’s Debut album coming soon on stones throw.

The duo has shared two new tracks from the record, ‘Fazer Folk’ and ‘Many People’. After Jesse bought a vintage ‘dental phantom’ from Mariano’s Agent Gallery in Chicago, the pair began a stimulating exchange of creative ideas, inspired by unconventional music, macabre art and striking artefacts. This became the beginning of a new venture, combining music, art and film.

Jesse first collaborated with Stones Throw in 2015 for the release of his solo experimental pop album Junk, crafted on an abandoned Yamaha PSR-110. He continued to send Stones Throw founder Peanut Butter Wolf music after its release, as well as books, artworks, and objects. Wolf curated fourteen of the recordings that would come to be Teeth Agency’s debut album You Don’t Have To Live In Pain. Teeth Agency are united by their morbid curiosities, as well as their interest in a range of rare musical styles from casio organ violin laments, to lizard lounge jazz, stoner doom psych, and absurdist soul horrorrama. Their latest double single is a snapshot of how these influences appear throughout their debut and portrays their desire to use unique and peculiar sounds. Both ‘Many People’ and ‘Fazer Folk’ were composed using “a bright red three-string box guitar” created by Jesse’s dad, Bill Hackett, which in Jesse’s words adds “an almost medieval sound quality to the music”.

‘Fazer Folk’ is a collaboration between Jesse and Mercury Prize-nominated artist Eska. You Don’t Have To Live In Pain features several more collaborations with Eska, as well as with other artists including producer and songwriter Bullion and Gil Mantera Party Dream’s Glen ‘Ice Man’ Dietz.
